計算社会科学研究センターは、2023年4月10日（月）に、対面開催にて"CCSS School on Computational Social Science: Computational Methods for Quantitative Economics"を開催しました。
5回目となる今回のCCSS School on Computational Social Scienceでは、オーストラリア国立大学教授で、神戸大学経済経営研究所のリサーチフェローでもあるJohn Stachurski氏が"Computational Methods for Quantitative Economics"をテーマに講義を行いました。 今回のCCSS Schoolの開始に先立ち、主催である計算社会科学研究センターの上東貴志センター長が開会のあいさつおよびStachurski氏の紹介を行いました。
講義では、Pythonで書かれたプログラムの高速化を中心テーマとして、並列化、Just-in-Time Compiler、GPU、Google JAXの使い方等について、Stachurski氏から説明があり、その後、参加者が自身のノートPCで実習しました。
多くの大学院生・教員が参加し、自身のノートパソコンでPythonを使用しながら、熱心にノートをとる姿が見受けられ、今回のCCSS Schoolも成功裡に終了しました。

Abstract
Computational methods and scientific computing are becoming increasingly central to research, analysis and policy work in economics, finance and social science.
This is an introductory workshop for students and policy makers who are interested in learning about the evolution of modern scientific computing tools and how they can be applied to economic problems. The main language used in the workshop will be Python, although other languages will also be discussed.
Topics will include simulation, vectorization, JIT compilers, and parallelization.
